Practical Katana (1070-GT) gives the martial artist the opportunity to own and use a Hanwei (Chen) blade at the cost of an economy sword. The blade is forged and differentially tempered, using the same process as the more expensive blades and producing an RC60 edge and RC40 back. The temper line is authentic and prominent. Cost savings are effected by using fittings which, while making no claims to authenticity, are very strongly built to withstand the rigours of cutting

Musashi, arguably the most famous swordmaster in Japanese history, fought more than 60 duels before retiring and writing his famous treatise on swordplay, the Book of Five Rings." Musashi was well above average height and his Daito (long sword) was made to match his size. Development of the two-sword style of swordplay, with the Daito and Wakizashi being used together, is credited to Musashi

Golden Oriole Katana (1018-GT) and Wakizashi (1019-GT). The story told by the stunning tsubas is of a mantis stealthily stalking the cricket, unaware that he is himslef being stalked by the Golden Oriole. The deeply lacquered blue of the scabbards is repeated in the Japanese cotton handle wraps, and the Oriole appears again on the kashiras (pommels)

the overlength (14") grip of the katana is secured to the long tang by double bamboo pegs. This longer handle gives a superb balance to the sword, allowing it to move very freely and very quickly rall

Our Renaissance-style Swept Hilt Rapiers trace their origins to early 17th century Europe, where swordplay with the Rapier was considered an essential part of a gentleman's education and was often used in resolving gentlemanly disagreements. Blades generally originated in one of the blade making centers such as Toledo or Solingen, but many differences in styling and hilt materials resulted from the local manufacture of hilts all over Europe. All of the Rapiers shown are civilian weapons, though the Pappenheimer style (1025-GT) was also widely used as a military arm in the Thirty Years War (1618-48).

Replicating a 17th century museum piece, our Trident Main Gauche (1031-GT) illustrates the skill and ingenuity of the bladesmiths of the period. Worn as a straight dagger, the weapon becomes highly effective Main gauche at the touch of button, when the spring-loaded side pieces of the split blade fly open to become blade trappers. At the same time the offensive capability provided by the point is retained. The matching Rapier (1028-GT) will allow the well-dressed gentleman to defend his honor in style.

The Regimental Dirk (1044-GT, 1045-GT and 1229-GT), with its integral knife and fork set, was worn from the mid-19th century onwards. Traditionally, officers of Highland line regiments carried the brass-mounted versions (1045-GT) while for officers of militia regiments and pipe majors the silver mounted versions (1044-GT, 1229-GT) were favored, though there were many exceptions to this rule.  The grips of all three models are of stained wood, carved in the customary basket-weave pattern and surmounted by the traditional "cairngorm" (amber on the 1045-GT and 1229-GT, amethyst on the 1044-GT).   The 11-1/2" blades are fileworked in the popular scalloped pattern.  A suspension loop is provided on the scabbard.

the Dadao, or fighting sword (1012-GT), was used with deadly effect as late as the 1930's in the Sino-Japanese war. Its single- or two-handed versatility, combined with the termendous slashing power of its weight-forward blade made it the ideal close-quarters weapon.

$129.00

The 2008-GT, with its plain black scabbard and grip, has a flattened-diamond blade section which is moderately stiff, while still allowing for some flexibility. The blade length is available in 28" 30" 32" and the weight is 1.4 lbs.

$95.00

The 2009-GT, which has a lacquered natural wood finish, is a very quick sword indeed. Weighing only 1.2 lbs., with a rapid taper 28-1/2"  30-32 inch fullered blade, the sword balances at 4" from the grip end of the guard. This is the most flexible of the three blades but is still sufficiently stiff to maintain complete control

$199.00

The 2010-GT is finished in polished walnut and features a stiff blade, with a pierced, triple-fullered ricasso section and a single-fullered slow taper to the point. The blade length is 27-3/4" and the weight is 1.3 lbs.

$289.00

The Han Sword (2005-GT) is a cavalry pattern from the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220), which reunited China and established boundaries very similar to those existing today. The rosewood grip and scabbard are inlaid with silver in an intricate scroll pattern, while the gilded steel guard, pommel and scabbard decorations feature the "crouching tiger" motif. The random pattern Damascus blade, with its ridged central fuller and reinforced point is admirably suited for slashing cuts and powerful thrusts from horseback.
